Dublin, Ireland and Wellington, New Zealand, 20 October 2011
Northern Ireland Water has selected the Aprisa SR point-to-multipoint SCADA radio from 4RF Communications for its province-wide water and waste water monitoring and control network. Nearly 2000 radios will be installed over the next 12 months by EMR Integration Solutions, 4RF’s local systems integration and distribution partner.
Northern Ireland Water’s infrastructure includes 20 major water treatment works and over a thousand waste water treatment works. The radio network consists of 28 protected base stations and 1847 remote stations, connected to RTUs and sensors that monitor information such as pressure and flow levels. Each existing analogue telemetry radio will be decommissioned and replaced with an Aprisa SR radio operating in the same licensed 450 – 470 MHz UHF frequency band.
Northern Ireland Water selected the Aprisa SR because it combines future-proof open standards management with excellent RF performance and comprehensive cyber security measures.
EMR will also be installing the network management software to manage Northern Ireland Water’s Telemetry scanning radio network.
“We have been partners with 4RF for many years, supplying radio infrastructure into electricity, water and public safety networks. 4RF products are consistently easy and intuitive to configure, manage and integrate into third party management platforms. This gives our customers a real choice rather than the traditional bespoke approach.”
Mark Quinn, Managing Director, EMR
The RF performance of the Aprisa SR, with its enhanced dynamic power range, enables reliable performance even over very short and very long distances, such as the nearly 40 km links needed in some locations, whilst meeting all the required licensing conditions.
Advanced best practice security standards protect the Aprisa SR radio network from both malicious and accidental cyber attacks. A ‘defence in depth’ design means that all traffic and interfaces are protected through a comprehensive suite of features, including AES256 encryption, authentication, and secure USB software upgrades.
“It is an honour to be selected as the main vendor for one of Europe’s largest water monitoring networks. It is a testimony to not only the quality of the 4RF solutions, but also to the great support infrastructure provided by 4RF and EMR.”
Hanoch Maskalchi, VP Global Sales, 4RF
This 12 month project will commence in the fourth quarter of 2011.
