British Gas deployment of Aprisa

Boosting offshore capacity for British Gas

British Gas needed continual monitoring of gas production parameters at the Miskar gas field, 125 km offshore.

Overcoming the problems of long distance, over water links, and constantly moving platforms, the Aprisa XE was deployed in a three-hop link from the Miskar gas field to an onshore terminal, replacing the outdated low capacity analogue link.

Voice, data and video traffic is aggregated and transported over a 256 kbit/s link. The Aprisa XE network has proved robust and efficient, enabling British Gas to closely monitor and manage production.

The distances involved and the system installation here presented a tough challenge for any transmission system. This region in the south Mediterranean sea also typifies the most difficult atmospheric conditions in the world.
